I am a tax attorney, and my firm has been solving IRS problems since 1996. The office is in Tampa, about an hour up I-75 from Sarasota, and federal tax matters before the IRS can be handled for clients anywhere in the country.

This site focuses on a corner of tax work that catches families off guard: what happens with the IRS after someone dies, inside a trust, or after a large gift. Executors find unfiled returns in a desk drawer. Trustees inherit a K-1 mess. Heirs get a letter about a lien on the house they just inherited. A surviving spouse learns that joint liability did not end at the funeral.

How I approach these cases

Estate and fiduciary cases reward getting the order of operations right. Who files what, who gets paid first, which deadlines can be extended and which cannot. Most of the damage I see comes from well-meaning people doing reasonable things in the wrong sequence.
